Support Kuantan anti-Lynas rally

A huge rally is to be held in Kuantan, Pahang, from 10am on Feb 26 to press for the "termination" of the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant project in the nearby industrial area of Gebeng.

The Himpunan Hijau 2.0 will be a continuation of the first Himpunan Hijau on Oct 9 last year, where a coalition of environmental NGOs led a 2,000-strong anti-Lynas rally by a Kuantan beach.

This time, the one-and-half-hour rally will be at the Kuantan municipal field, where participants are expected to pray, sing songs, recite poems and read out a seven-point demand called "Aspirations of the People".

1. Kuantan people will win, says anti-Lynas campaigner ,http://hornbillunleashed.wordpress.com/2011/10/13/24338/

(The campaign against the radioactivity risk of the Lynas rare earth refinery in Gebeng, near Kuantan, will eventually be successful, according to Prof Tan Ka Kheng, a distinguished environmental activist. Tan has a doctorate in a chemical engineering from the University of Cambridge. He did his research in physical chemistry after being released from the Internal Security Act. He had been the first of 106 prisoners of conscience imprisoned during the ‘Operation Lalang’ crackdown on NGOs and opposition politicians in 1987.

What was his offence against former premier Mahathir, leading to his detention without trial a quarter of a century ago? As vice-president of the Environmental Protection Society of Malaysia (EPSM), Tan had led an effective resistance movement against the notorious radioactive Asian Rare Earth (ARE) refinery in Perak. Lynas now claims radioactive thorium concentrations in the rare earth ores it is planning to ship to Gebeng will be lower than they were in Bukit Merah, and will therefore be safe. Tan dismisses such claims: “There is no such thing as a safe level of radiation… they are playing around with people’s lives.”)

Prof Tak was actively involved in Asian Rare Earth (ARE) refinery issue in Perak, and he was imprisoned for the involvement under Operation Lalang. He understand Lynas issue in Kuantan much better than any of us...

Norway and the world

It was a sad day for Norway. A country perceived by the world as peaceful and prosperous country.

The five happiest countries in the world--Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands--are all clustered in the same region, and all enjoy high levels of prosperity. The Scandinavian countries do really well. One theory why is that they have their basic needs taken care of to a higher degree than other countries. Those basic needs explain the relationship between income and well-being.

Yet a violence incident to kill innocent people, a mass killing of terrorist happened in Norway. It was not done by outside terrorist, but a local breed Norwegian. The worst is , the mass killing incident happen in Norway, and the killer killed own people? The fact is hard to swallow.

Extremism killed, and extremism has no border; it is not limited by religion, by nation, by race, by location……whatever form of extremism, it lead to disaster to mankind, either individually or socially. The IT technology and social media facilitate the spread and development of extremism, due to the speed knowledge can be acquired, the speed ideal s can be communicated to masses. The mind is the ultimate breeding place for extremism.

The mental and emotional awareness of the extremism, to younger generation, is weak; coupled with the self centered and egoistic mentality, it nourished social extremism.

The breakdown of family bond and weakening of family value, which led to society with less sense of belonging to family, the basic unit of society. The internet environment is the only guideline for the potential individual, without the reminding and support of the senior family members to upkeep the positive family value.

The social environment that encourage independence and isolation, that lead to indulgence in violence computer games, war games, and negative value, that lead to extremism.

In short, a person is full of loneliness, hatred, negative value, wrong and negative information, helping to cultivate the one way thinking of oneself, that lead to extremism. In short, the person is having no love for himself, no sense of belonging to family unit, no social status, threatening environment(either actual or perceived); mentally he was under extreme impulses and pressure, until a breaking point where violence ignited.

I still remember once I was in Kuala Lumpur Chinatown, having lunch with a backpacker from Norway. While we are sharing on family life, he was very provoked, and suddenly feels uneasy to talk about. This is not a usual response for Malaysian when talking about family. Malaysian will normally talk fondly about family life. The Norwegian friend later told me, when he was young as child, his parents did not take care of him, and he is not prepare to take care of them. He is not going back home for them. At that time, I was thinking may be the parent had divorced, and he was lack of parental care. Until one day I realized that it is the social norm, of working parents, and let the children to be take care by nursery. The children are growing up without the closeness of their parents. The parents are not together with the children, when they are growing up. The grandparents are not around either, there is no closest family members to walk with them and provide them guidance.

Their only teacher is from the internet; war games, violence movies, extremist propaganda and materials; religion fanatic teaching; ultra political thinking; racism; and popular culture from TV and websites are the teachers ......they have freedom to do anything, under their understanding of democracy and freedom for ownself.

The high divorce rate, the dual working parents, the collapse of family unit, the distance of grandparent to the child……the family social value is breaking down in the current social environment.

If the child has no feeling of belonging, feeling of being love; even he has religion, religion without love is nothing, because religion must have love for the fellow man, the mankind. Once the basic value failed, and he found no love in his heart, another opposing force nourish in his heart, a mental cultivation for hate. Despite having religion, he is not getting the fullness of the religion knowledge of God, a desired part of the religion was adopted to support his agenda and perception in his mind. Religion becomes his tool to gain his ideal condition of extremism. He become a religion fanatic, not true religion follower, as no religion will teach negative social value and killing people, except religion fanatic, which has deviated away from the actual teaching.

The breaking down of family value; biased fanatic religion teaching or occult or false religion teaching; the impact of social media and Internet technology with information that cannot be differentiate its truth; the popular culture that impact different value; the computer games to stimulate fanaticism and extremism; ultra political ideals with no compromise for moderation, selfish and egoistic mentality; become the multiple factors that cultivate fanaticism.

When monetary gains become a norm for society; when society become capitalistic without regard to the social needs of less advantage people; when everyone indulged in economic success and participate in social ills, when corruption are norm to a country, when environment are polluted and when the government become arrogant ; when law lost its fairness, when religion talk about killing mankind …. This created social pressure to the young generations who are bought up in the comfort, imparted with information through IT media, truth or false, without control. Their tolerance level or threshold level for acceptance of differences or diversity are low. Their emotion is fragile, unlike their grandfathers in WW2 era; without comfort of love, fanaticism developed....

We need to change the perception; money and comfort did not bring happiness and peace, even an environment within the most happiest country, can cultivate extremism, and developed mass killers or terrorists. The source of inspiration is from the environment surround, and is he happy personally with the environment. Even with a well protected environment, information can now move with the internet technology, to any lonely extremist potential and develop him to a full blood fanatic. With the information advancement of religion fanatic, ultra politic and the freedom to own gun, without interact with the actual terrorist, a lone terrorist can be created...

Have religion terrorism, ultra politic thinking and false democracy and human right advocates, pushing our younger generation to the corner of extremism?.....

we ourselves nourish the social environment for fanaticism. Some country even endorsed religion, political and military extremism…

…..and now society is sick…..where is the moderate people? why the extremists and ultra politic thinking, religion fanatic, false democracy and human right advocates, are influencing the world and affecting our younger generation.....

It is not Norway, it is not only Afghanistan; it can happen in China, in Japan, in India, in America(USA), or even Malaysia, and any country…….

(source: http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/)

As the Jasmine flowers are blowing not only in North Africa, Middle East, and even traces of Jasmine flowers will be found in Europe and Asia; it is highly contagion. It is high time the ruling government relook at the Universal Declaration of Human Right, including the so called Democracy Champion and Human Right advocates......are you still hiding under the carpet?.....

Otherwise the Jasmine flowers may fall into your backyard, without you notice it; as Jasmine's good friend is the Facebook, the social media which travel and communicate fast, faster than your action ..... people power now stand tall and know their individual right....

The most common categorization of human rights is to split them into civil and political rights, and economic, social and cultural rights.

Civil and political rights are enshrined in articles 3 to 21 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). Economic, social and cultural rights are enshrined in articles 22 to 28 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).

Is the human right differ in Asia and from people with different religion?
This is held to be true because without civil and political rights the public cannot assert their economic, social and cultural rights. Similarly, without livelihoods and a working society, the public cannot assert or make use of civil or political rights (known as the full belly thesis).

The indivisibility and interdependence of all human rights has been confirmed by the 1993 Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action:

“ All human rights are universal, indivisible and interdependent and related. The international community must treat human rights globally in a fair and equal manner, on the same footing, and with the same emphasis”

—Vienna Declaration and Program of Action, World Conference on Human Rights, 1993

But the west and the east have different value.....did the declaration taking into the value of other human from different global regions?

How about religion value? will the declaration take into consideration of religion perspectives? the right of the people with religion.....

Is there any absolute right? even the right to kill by allowing gun ownership; or a nation's arm sales to poorer country for killing human, or where the people are facing poverty. Is the arms selling countries, an act of deprivation of human right of the citizen of buying country, a right for better living, a violation of human right?....

Government allow the government to ban the exercise of individual right ? where the right involve non humanity action...or the right violate the right of human to live in peace.....

How about the individual government right, which represent the combination of individual rights, to say "no" to political pressure from the superpowers?.....

The human right of minority.......

Is morally not right, a human right?......

Some human right may be universal; but some right may not....

It is not human right or human wrong; it is the human right of "ownership" of the basic human right.....

If your animal eat better food than me, a human; or I have no food to eat as a human. Is it human right to ask for food from you, the owner of the animal who are also human, or if I eat the animal as food, is it human wrong?... human violate the animal right?.......Otherwise a human will died of hunger and a animal will be fat with the inheritance of human, which is sufficient to feed many human in the world........can animal right have higher priority over human right???....by depriving human the right, and given the animal the "human right", is it human right violation?.

It is the human right, political right to choose a government under democracy; if we choose a dictator in our country, it is exercise of our individual human right;...it is government chosen by people, liked by people and their government is people centered dictator, all citizen are happy as the government care for the citizens and ruled the country well..... can an action by superpower to suppress the country be treated as a human right violation?....

Is there any learning curve for country to undergo different stages of human right maturity?......

If the people of the country are happy of their existing political situation, it is their human right to maintain it; it is also their human right to change it. No any third party or 3rd country, even human right advocates can interfere with the domestic affair of the country as it is people choice.....it is their human right of government.....

A monopoly; trade protection, price manipulation, cartel, nepotism, corruption,pollution....a human right violation?.....it deprive human of better economic/business environment...

Is the unauthorized involvement of a government of a country to the domestic affairs of another country, a human right violation?.....

Can a nation having racial discriminating legal framework, be a country that respect human right?....

Can human right have double standards; not only within the nation, also across the national borders?.....

Can a super race, privileged race, or master race conception a human right "right"?....is the practice a violation of human right?...

Human right means people power; human right means people centered ownership of their basic rights.....and no others. The right must be for the human entitlement for a basic living and for betterment of human environment itself. It must start from human, politically it is still people, human.....the right for betterment of mankind....

" Non- human" cannot have human right.......

One Malaysian?

What is one Malaysian?

I am a Malaysian for 47 years since 1963; and 53 years after 1957.

I never know of One Malaysian. I have know only multi Malaysian, different Malaysian.

It is not our way of life ..... we are different from different background.

They have tell us, from politician; times and times; we are different.

How can we be ONE; I am yellow,you are brown, and he is black;

unless we are colour blinded....

Even the highest authority in the country, did not believe in it;

look at the special officer of the authority;

he speak the true, we are different....

After the election, we are more than one;

your are opposition, I am government,

No allocation for opposition MP,

we are not one people....from the action.

How can we be one, which means one heart,

We do not even communicate within the party,

Look at all the political parties, they are not in one heart...

What one heart, YB?

One heart is serving the people, regardless of opposition or government.

One heart means united as one after election...

One heart means you as ruling party, respect the people's mandate;

One heart means you respect your opponent and give him the opportunity to complete its term,

One heart means you allocated fund for the opposition to carry his job as representative of the people,

One heart means for the betterment of your nation and people.

One heart means do not hurt the feeling of the people,

One heart means do not hurt the economy of the nation,

One heart means do no hurt the image of nation.

Looking at what happen to the country,

Government and opposition, are playing politic,

They are equally to be blame, not the people.

The conclusion, we have no heart; how to be one Malaysian?....

Fed up; the acting politician;

you have failed the biggest KPI, the people.

You have failed the test of democracy....

At the end , because of you, politician;

we forgot we are Malaysian,

we forgot 1957.....

Merdeka.....merdeka... free from politician.

May be we can only be One Malaysian, when there is no politician.

Misuse of democracy

The news reported that one lecturer from USM lodged a police report on video clip which allegedly insult a religion(Bernama, 8-5-2009) .The IP(Internet Protocol) is from Kota Bharu, Kelantan,Malaysia.

I personally supported the said police report made by the lecturer. The person who posted the video should be charged under the law. He should have handed over the video to the police , instead of posting it in youtube. The person intently titled the video in youtube.com which can provoked ill feeling or hate feeling among Malaysian of different racial background and religion. The posting was with malice intention. The one who filmed the video is also equally responsible for the wrongful act, if they are two different person. This is abuse of democracy and Internet.

Police this time should rightfully take the action against these two people. These are the people who are the real threat to public security, just like the Mat Rempit activities. Police should focus on these activities(not the orderly demonstration of expression). Police, your immediate action is required. From the youtube, we found there are video that make fun of national songs, national flag, race , religion; and having offensive content in their video which can cause harmful effect to the race relation, religion harmony, and even to the nation....... they should be charged within the law. They have misuse their democracy, regardless of who they are, Malay, Chinese, or Indian ; they are enemy to the democracy.

It is sad that there are people with such mentality; who are either having malice intention (political or non-politic motive), with ultimate purpose to hurt the innocent people of their race identity, their religion identity, their national identity; or to destroy the peace and stability of the country.

Sad.......democracy become demon go crazy, when you misuse or abuse the freedom of expression..abuse of democracy. True freedom, true democracy is you don't hurt people.

My hope for democracy, my rainbow for democracy ?.....

Re-Education

The definition of education is:

Learning to be - this is the skill of understand own self; create self respect, self confidence, self awareness, self love and self capability. To learn how to express one's mind to others. To build up their positive characters. The foundation for further learning.

Learning to know- this is the skill to understand your environment; to acquire knowledge. The next step from self analysis, to learn the immediate environment connected to oneself.

Learning to do - this is an action skill to ensure survival in the environment, to learn how to provide for own self, for family in their daily life. To be more involved in the environment we lived, to actively involved in the betterment of our environment, the place we lived.

Learning to live together - this is the social skill to learn how to live in society, that life is not an island. Learn to love others, learn to share and learn to respect others. There is no bias and prejudice elements in their life, more open minded and respect others who are difference. To be good global citizen.

Looking at the world today, and the younger generation and the formal school environment; we can said that we have long way from the goal of education. Have our education system failed? or are our children learn from the informal education channel more than the formal education system provided by the state? Is there any wrong with our education system?

Look at the global financial crisis, the basis of education is not with the financial boys of wall street, greed go over their head. They have MBA from top business school in USA, but failed in the basis of education. The bankers of current financial market, equally failed to be the trustee of people's fund; they are more profit orientated, more sale orientated, more predatory marketing, created financial products not understand by their clients(even they do not understand), and the investors.

Despite the call for environment protection, business and industries are allowed to continue to pollute ...

The scientists who created new commercial products, to make more profits for their sponsors, especially pharmaceutical products... more DNA engineering... more pollution.

The education institution, going for more fund for their institution, producing PHDs who are with permanent head damage, with the field not relevant to the society?. They have lost their direction. Some even producing a series of A students like a rice cookers in a factory, producing graduates with no ability to survive in the real world.

The advertisement bombard the innocent children for the junk food, fast food and soft drinks. They are provided with computer games , pop songs , and other information with content beyond their age, causing mismatch mental development with their actual age.

The direct sale marketing offer the people with higher priced products, non-necessity products, health products.....with promises...

The politician, and their hidden agenda...and corruption and losses of government fund...and forget about serving the people. Yet there are wars, there are terrorists; what the politician fight for? for the people?...

To the society, the moral decay and .......even charitable and religious organization are become marketing oriented, CEO with gold plated taps, travel first class by jet , like a corporate CEO but using people's money which are fund collected to help disadvantage people.

They said the world had changed......and we allowed it to happen.....

But the truth never change. Not only the kids need education; the adult and the world need education, to re-learn. We need to learn like the kids, to learn all over again. To make this world new again.

Then this world will be a better place to live.

History of school history textbook

Just happen to find two old history textbooks for lower secondary school, published in 1960. I compared it with today's history textbook, the contents of 1960 books are more comprehensive, and with global coverage.

Their chapters for Book 1 (red color) which was for Form 1 students , included the following chapters:-

1. Early Malaya
2. The Indianized kingdoms of South East Asia
3. Ancient kingdoms of the Malay Peninsular
4. Ancient India
5. Asoka and the Maurya empire
6. The age of the Imperial Guptas
7. Early China
8. Confucius, Lao-Tzu and Shin Huang Ti
9. The Han and Tang Dynasties
10. Early Greek
11. Alexander the Great
12. Ancient Rome
13. The rise and fall of Rome
14. Beginnings of the Great Religions
15. Christianity(full chapter)
16. Islam (full chapter)

Book 3 in blue color(book 2 not available) for Form 3 students, included the following chapters:

1. The age of inventions, which covered on Industrial Revolution.
2. Europe 1789-1939, which have chapters covered French Revolution, Napoleon Bonaparte, Europe after Napoleon, Emergence of modern powers(USA and Italy, Germany, Russia;world War 1,the rise of dictators(WW2)
3. The East which covered India(1600-1947); China(1644-1949); and Japan(1603-1952)
4. South East Asia, which covered chapters on Malaya(1819-1909); Malaya II(1909-1957); Burma, Ceylon, Philippines, Indonesia & Indo-China.

When I looked at the textbook used today by my daughter's school, which are standard textbook used nationwide(in the sixties, school can choose their own text books).

The current textbook for Form 3 covered only Malaysian history, and the content is much superficial. The student should be having global perspective, to avoid them become narrow minder person, knowing only their own country without awareness of other countries' history.

Furthermore the text are not neutral, biased toward the author's personal views. It seems that the author may have using the text book to brainwash the young to follow their personal views. History should be based on fact and balanced views. In a multiracial and multireligion society, authors should be neutral and take the history from the actual fact or from different prospective. It is better to have a panel to handle the publication of school textbooks,to avoid personal bias.Otherwise the young students may be mislead to believe that the history in the textbook is the true story of the past.

Otherwise it is better to sent my children to private school or home schooling.

No wonder there are many students scored A in the government examination now, compared to sixties, seventies ; where A score are reserved for the best grade at least 80% and above. At that time few scored A. It was real "A" student ! Now the band for A grade is wide. You can find full A students everywhere.

A commitment by the new PM

Now the new PM is a blogger himself. His blog www.1malaysia.com.my is with three languages, Malay, English and Chinese. Yes, Chinese blog, look at the photo on one of the headlines and pages in the local Chinese newspaper, Sin Chew Daily. It clearly reported that Najib is having his own blog in Chinese language!. Wah, that is improvement.......

Fear of restriction of press freedom, this is comforting words from the new PM said:

"To build a democracy (that is) responsive to the needs of the people, Malaysia needs a media that will report what they see, without fear of consequence,"

Najib, Prime Minister of Malaysia

Gun ownership

Gun Law, Gun Control & Gun Politic

It is sad to hear another killing by gunman in New York Immigration Service Centre. The people who are taking examination to become US citizen are the victims. Their hope of becoming the citizen of the most admired democracy country, land of opportunities and freedom. Some will never become the citizen, as they, 13 of them are killed by the gunman, the man who own the gun, purchase the gun, lawfully under Gun Control Act 1968. But use the gun unlawfully……

I still remember when I was small, in the cinema. I saw the cowboy shooting the red Indian and later in the scene, there were blood and dead bodies, the fire burning and the crying of the children and woman……that was when I am small. The cowboy was the hero; the Red Indian was the evil. Until one day when I grow up, I realized that the cowboy was the invaders and the Red Indian was the owner of the place. I know that not necessary the one with the most powerful weapon are the hero. This was Wild Wild West, where there was no law, there was no gun law, no human right law. It is the winner and power that prevail in the wild wild west.

Today, America is civilized society, it is one of the country many people from the poor countries dream to be the citizen. The country was percepts as country of riches (despite the long deficit budget), country of opportunities....

However the mentality of the cowboy or wild wild west still remained in some cowboy’s head. They need to have gun to overpower their enemies or people they dislike. They still go for hunting of killing, despite animal right. There were wars, there were killings, even in the modern civilized world, where there is human right, there is gun law. In New York case, an unemployed person trouble with drugs , can obtain the gun, easily….. & the gun politic still continue the debate of the day in the country.

He is a Vietnamese immigrant; he has the hope once like the one in the immigration office whom he killed. Why he did it? We can blamed the global financial meltdown (which also start from the wild wild west of the wall street, the greedy financial cowboys in New York). But how about other killing cases, some of the killers are young students?

A gun law is a law pertain to firearms, and their restrictions on gun ownership and its usage, and the type of weapon used. Gun control is the restriction of gun usage and prohibit specific persons to own gun. Gun politic is a set of legal issues surrounding the ownership, use, and regulation of firearms, as well as safety issues related to firearms, both direct used and through legal and criminal use. The question is can Gun Law and Gun control solved the problem of killings?
The issue of gun law has become a political and/or controversial issue in many societies. There are differing views on how gun laws should be set up in a society. A typical disagreement is over whether guns should be prohibited in the interest of public safety, or whether citizen gun ownership improves safety and should be allowed. The debate still go on in developed countries. There is a strong gun right group and lobbyist in USA.

The only way for a civilian to own a firearm in Singapore is to acquire an Arm & Explosives license. In Malaysia, if you are not license for gun ownership, and you own gun, the penalty is death sentence. Gun ownership in the two countries is strictly controlled. It is like a total ban, unless you have license, gun control is tight.

In USA, under the Gun Control Act 1968, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) was the regulatory and enforcement body. They issue the Federal Firearms License(FFL). They group firearms, explosives with alcohol and tobacco, we can see the views of their law. Gun and explosive are at the same level as tobacco and alcohol in their risks perception.

There is Firearms Owner Protection Act 1986, mandated to BATFE the compliance inspection of once a year. But there are allowance for three years.

The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act 1993, created a national background check system to prevent firearms sales to “prohibited persons”. Yet the black list did not stop the killing cases.
USA is democracy country and considered a model for that. They considered themselves as the global guardian for the democracy, human right….but they allow gun ownership for killing innocent people, they allowed long debate and lobbying for gun politic.

To the politician, the gun politic is another platform, another game, a political game.

If it is democratic right to own gun, and innocent people killed because of the right. There are more killing cases in recent years. Then something is not normal, the human element is missing, we only care for our personal right, not another human being’s welfare. Democracy and human right are for the betterment of human society, not restricted to only personal welfare. The question is , is gun right protect the community/society of civilized nation, or the domestic security is so bad that we need gun to protect ourselves in civilized society? Or is personal right prevails over the community or majority right for peace and security? Or is the enforcement unit of domestic security e.g. police failed?

Or is hidden in the debate of gun right, is the right of arms merchant?(note: The world largest arms exporter is USA in 2007 ranking, followed by Russia, Germany, France,Ukraine, Netherlands, UK, South Korea, Italy and Sweden. South Korea is the largest exporter in Asia, followed by India( refer Arms Industry, www.wikipedia.org).... the arms profit?

Otherwise what is democracy, what is human right? Another demon going crazy…..

It is sad......
