From Kota Bahru to Rantau Panjang(Border town)

The Masjid Jubli Perak Sultan Ismail Petra, Rantau Panjang, which the local people called Masjid China, was located on the right side of the road leading to Rantau Panjang town. It is rare in Malaysia to see a mosque with Chinese architecture, it is unthinkable in earlier days, as few will expected and accepted that, especially Malaysian who perceived that all mosques must be in Arabic architecture. I think this is the first and the only one in Malaysia. This is Kelantan, a state ruled by the Islamic Party(PAS), and with only 5% population are Chinese, they have taken a liberal view on mosque architecture. The Mentri Besar had visited China, the country with one of the largest population of Muslim. He must has seen the Chinese mosque in China. Credit must be given to the MB and the state. The mosque has become a tourist attraction for Rantau Panjang.
Why the mosque located in Rantau Panjang? Perhaps this is because Rantau Panjang has large population of Chinese educated Malay, who can accepted the concept, and the challege to be different.
It was reported that Perak Chinese Muslim Association is planning to build a similar one in Ipoh. But Rantau Panjang Masjid China is built by the state for all races.
